Climate For Wines
Here you shall find the information on the climate that is favorable for vines in India and also the overall climate in India. This will help you understand better why India is emerging as a good wine producing nation in the world.
- India is a vast country and has large climatic variations, so cannot be put just under one zone. The four main climatic zones are :
- Alpine Zone: It includes the high altitudes of Himalayas where the temperatures are low and it is cold.
- Sub Tropical: Includes the northern part of India. Here the summers are hot and wet while in winter temperature may drop down to freezing point in higher ranges.
- Tropical: This region experiences average to high rainfall.
- Arid: This zone has high temperature and low rainfall.
So as you can see the Indian climate has so many variations. And in these some regions prove to be a very good environment for the wine grapes cultivation. The grapes that are used for the production of good quality wine need sunlight, fairly fertile soil, and moderate temperatures, which are seen in some regions of India like Nashik, Sangli in Maharashtra. These are best grown on the slopes of the mountains.
